Orlando Johnson set to replace Brandon Brown as SMB reinforcement

Orlando Johnson is set to take over the spot of Brandon Brown as San Miguel reinforcement for the 2021 PBA Governors’ Cup.

The 32-year old former Brgy. Ginebra import reportedly arrived in the country two days ago and is now undergoing quarantine in preparation for his second coming in the league.

News of his arrival came after Brown posted a farewell message for the Beermen on his Instagram account.

“Thank you San Miguel for my time here. Thank you PBA for allowing imports to come to this country and do what they love,” wrote Brown.

“Thank you fans for the support. Happy you guys get to watch your favorite teams. Dark B out,” he added.

Brown led the Beermen to a 3-2 record and submitted decent averages of 23.4 points, 12.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 0.6 blocks per contest.

Johnson, on the other hand, posted 12-game averages of 33.7 points and 11.3 rebounds during his stint with the Gin Kings in 2015. The team, however, finished the elimination round with a paltry 5-6 record and was eventually booted out in the quarterfinals.

He last saw action for the Brisbane Bullets during the 2020-2021 season of the NBL.

The 6-foot-5 American was the 36th overall pick of the 2012 NBA draft. He played a total of 105 games in the premier basketball league for teams such as the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns and the New Orleans Pelicans.
