San Miguel aims to withstand the pressure from two fronts when it tangles with Meralco Friday in their PBA Governors Cup quarterfinals duel at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“Do-or-die para sa amin ito,” said coach Leo Austria before pointing out that his Beermen have to also live up to the expectations heaped on them by their supporters.

“Ang inaasahan sa amin ng mga tao is to at least get into the next round kaya kailangan talaga all-out kami dito.”

That should take quite a lot of doing, considering Meralco comes armed with a twice-to-beat advantage by virtue of finishing the eliminations at fourth, a rung above SMB.

“At this point, I’m just happy to get that twice-to-beat because we’re gonna need it against San Miguel,” said Meralco coach Norman Black following his side’s 109-90 victory over Phoenix Super LPG last Saturday that sealed the duel with SMB.

Black’s statement stems from the fact that his Bolts absorbed a stinging 110-115 loss to the Beermen last March 5, when the former blew as much as a 26-point third quarter lead.

“Sigurado, ayaw na nilang maisahan ulit,” noted Austria, before adding his team is not about to flirt with fate again.
