From a three-conference slump, San Miguel launches its redemption drive with a retooled lineup versus NLEX in the mainer of the kickoff bill of Season 46 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena Wednesday.
The former Philippine Cup five-peat champs unveil Vic Manuel and Simon Enciso in SMB uniform together with import Brandon Brown, looking for a winning start in a bid to assert themselves again in the league.
On the opposite end is an NLEX side which is itself raring to come out with its own little changes in its roster and its acquisition of former TNT import KJ McDaniels.
The SMB-NLEX face-off is tipped to provide the tourney an explosive start.
“For sure, all of us prepared well for this season resumption, and we’re all excited to return to play. I expect a tough match,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria.
The SMB core is a new mix with Manuel and Enciso taking the spots of Arwind Santos and Alex Cabagnot.
“We value our relationship with Arwind and Alex, and we’re grateful to them but there comes a time that we need to move on and focus on the talent that we have right now. We need to nurture and find a way to make our new gems complement the team,” said San Miguel team manager Gee Abanilla.
