San Miguel is going into the PBA bubble in Clark armed with an advantage of a 1-0 win-loss record.
The Beermen, however, will have to defend the Philippine Cup crown without main man June Mar Fajardo who is still recuperating from a shin injury which he sustained during the off-season.
Already without the benefit of the presence of a 6-foot-10 center, the team lost another bruiser in the person of Matt Ganuelas-Rosser.
The 30-year old, high-leaping forward decided to opt out of the PBA bubble and stay with his family in the US.
“He wrote a letter to the management and coaching staff regarding the whole family in the States. Alam naman natin in California, the past few weeks maliwanag ang kalangitan nila dun because of the wildfire. Siguro apektado rin sila roon,” bared head coach Leo Austria
To fill the void, the team recalled Louie Vigil who was loaned to Alab Pilipinas late last year.
Without the 6-time PBA MVP, the Beermen will now look to veterans Arwind Santos and Alex Cabagnot, and high-scoring guard Terrence Romeo to lead the team’s quest for a six straight Philippine Cup title.
Chris Ross, Marcio Lassiter, Moala Tautuaa, Von Pessumal and Russel Escoto will comprise the team’s regular rotation while Billy Mamaril, Paul Zamar, new recruits Gelo Alolino and Bam Gamalinda, and rookies Daniel de Guzman and Wendell Comboy round up the squad.
The team is set to arrive at the Quest Hotel in Mimosa on Tuesday evening.
